What public records can I search if I want to find someone?

I was told if I wanted to find someone, to got to the courthouse and look in the public records. My question is which records do I search since all I know is the name and that they live here in town with an unlisted phone number.

  1. An unlisted number there are heck of john smiths in my areas phonebook also know their phone but dont know their residence some cases they have to find this case the most certainly not.
